This time, the meeting is called “Regional Platforms and National Policies in Latin America” and will be inaugurated by the executive vice president of the Council of Rectors, Aldo Valle; Ambassador Gabriel Rodríguez, representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the rector of the University of Chile, Ennio Vivaldi and the director of International Relations of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, Fernando Alvarado.

This Friday, November 24, the second edition of the Seminar on the Internationalization of Higher Education, entitled "Regional Platforms and National Policies in Latin America," will take place in the O'Higgins Room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event is organized by the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH), through its General Secretariat and the Advisory Commission on Internationalization, in conjunction with the Directorate of Energy, Science and Technology (DECYTI) of the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREL). The University of Chile and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile are sponsoring the event through the Ministry of Education's Internationalization Agreement.

As the delegate of the Council of Rectors for the internationalization commission, the Rector of UCSC, Christian Schmitz, will attend this meeting which aims to continue the dialogue initiated in the first version of the Seminar on Internationalization of Higher Education held in October 2016, to answer the fundamental questions that emerged from that instance, to debate new ideas and share experiences on internationalization in higher education in the region, this meeting will bring together authorities in charge of matters related to internationalization, academics, students and researchers from Chilean and foreign higher education institutions.

This seminar, which will run from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the O'Higgins Room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will feature Ambassador Gabriel Rodríguez, Director of Decyti, representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Rector Aldo Valle of the University of Valparaíso, in his capacity as Executive Vice President of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH); Rector Ennio Vivaldi of the University of Chile; and Fernando Alvarado, Director of International Relations of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, representing Rector Ignacio Sánchez.

The meeting's program includes two panels. The first will analyze "Regional Platforms" for internationalization and will feature panelists Ana María Portales, representative of the International Cooperation Agency (AGCI); Óscar Garrido, Rector of the University of Los Lagos and President of the Inter-American University Organization (OUI); Carlos Antezana, Rector of the University of Oruro and President of Criscos; and Waldo Albarracín, Rector of the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés and President of the Association of Universities of the Montevideo Group (AUGM). Tito Flores, Director of International Relations at UTEM, will moderate, and Carol Johnson, Director of International Relations at Usach, will be the rapporteur.

The second international panel will address “National Policies” on internationalization and will feature José de Santana, Director of Institutional Relations at the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPQ); Elizabeth Orjuela from the Research Promotion Directorate of Colciencias in Colombia; Christian Nicolai, Executive Director of Conicyt; and Alejandra Contreras, Head of Divesup. Julio Crespo, Director of International Relations at Ulagos, will moderate this panel, and Marcela Fuentes, Director of International Relations at UMCE, will serve as rapporteur.

As part of this activity, there will also be a presentation entitled “Internationalization and Integration in Higher Education in Europe: Lessons for Latin America”, given by Michael Peak, Senior Advisor for Education and Development at the British Council.
