“With this decision, the Council of Rectors wants to contribute to a greater institutionalization of the admission processes in the country's higher education system,” said the executive vice president of the Council of Rectors, Aldo Valle.

Private universities wishing to apply to join the Single Admission System have until Monday, April 25th to do so.

The Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities announced the three basic criteria that private universities must meet if they wish to join the CRUCH Single Admission System to participate in the 2017 Admission Process.

The executive vice president of the Council of Rectors and rector of the University of Valparaíso, Aldo Valle, stated that “with this decision, the Council of Rectors wants to contribute to a greater institutionalization of the admission processes in the country's higher education system, ensuring that the application and selection of students responds to the principles of transparency and impartiality and, at the same time, that the admission processes are based on the recognition of the merit and performance of the students, considering their respective educational environments,” he pointed out.

Regarding the criteria, Valle explained that “the first criterion requires institutions to meet the requirements of Law 20.890 concerning accreditation for a specific period, regardless of whether their governing bodies are non-profit individuals or legal entities. The second criterion stipulates that institutions must commit to full compliance with the rules and procedures of the Unified Admission System, as well as the agreements of the Council of Rectors related to the Admission Process. Finally, the third criterion states that institutions must demonstrate the compatibility of their mission and institutional vision with the principles of the Unified Admission System of the Council of Rectors,” Valle noted.

These criteria were agreed upon at the Council of Rectors session at the end of March and were specified at the Executive Committee meeting last Monday, April 11.

University applications

Considering these criteria, all universities wishing to participate in the Single Admission System for the 2017 Admission Process must send a letter of application to the Council of Rectors by Monday, April 25.

The applications received will be submitted to the plenary session of the Council of Rectors for a decision on April 28, and during the first week of May, a formal communication will be sent to the universities with the acceptance or rejection of their application.

It's worth noting that in April 2011, the CRUCH (Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities) opened the admissions system and invited all private universities to participate. The eight universities that have been affiliated since then are: Diego Portales University, Mayor University, Finis Terrae University, Andrés Bello University, Adolfo Ibáñez University, University of the Andes, University of Development, and Alberto Hurtado University.
