The Single Admission System of the Council of Rectors is evaluating options to adjust the formula for calculating the Grade Ranking for future admission processes.

The executive vice president of CRUCH, Juan Manuel Zolezzi, stated that "no modifications will be made this year, because the rules for this admission process were communicated in the first semester.".

Since the implementation of the Grade Ranking in the 2013 Admission Process, the technical advisors of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) have maintained that it is necessary to evaluate its impact on the system, in order to gradually introduce the necessary adjustments.

Currently, the formula for calculating the Ranking Score only considers the school from which the student graduates in 12th grade (4th year of high school). However, starting with the next admissions process, the student's entire academic record will be considered. This change means that the Ranking Score will be calculated taking into account each of the schools the student attended during high school. In other words, the Ranking Score will be calculated considering the student's performance in each of the four years (9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade). For example, if the student attended four different schools, the historical average of each school will be considered in the final calculation of their Ranking Score.

This adjustment would eliminate the incentive to change schools in 4th year of high school to improve the Ranking score, allowing for a more accurate evaluation of the student's performance in their relative context, which is consistent with the spirit of this selection factor.

However, “no modifications will be made this year, because the rules for this admission process were communicated in the first semester, but for next year the necessary changes will be introduced to avoid possible distortions of the system,” explained Rector Juan Manuel Zolezzi, Executive Vice President of the Council of Rectors.

Ranking Commission

More than a month ago, the Single Admission System (SUA) of the Council of Rectors convened experts to form a commission whose objective is to analyze the formula for calculating the Grade Ranking and propose improvements.

This commission is already working and is made up of academics and professionals from the Ministry of Education, CRUCH universities, research centers and the Single Admission System.
