The meeting served as the starting point for a mobility pilot program, to be carried out in 2015, in which it is hoped that a hundred young people will be able to study in a country of the Andean community.
The University of Valparaíso hosted a meeting of the associations that make up the Andean University Council (CONSUAN), a group that brings together the associations or councils of rectors from Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, and Colombia. Together with representatives from the Alfa Puente-Ulises project, OBREAL, the European Universities Association, international cooperation agencies, and the Montevideo Group, among other stakeholders, the group defined its intention to collaborate on an undergraduate mobility program for Andean Community countries.
At this meeting, held between March 26 and 28, presentations were given on mobility experiences in the invited countries, and an agreement was reached to launch a mobility pilot in 2015. A follow-up meeting of the group is expected in the second half of 2014 to establish the mechanisms by which this mobility would be carried out.
From this meeting held in Valparaíso, several ideas emerged for discussion, such as the need for student exchange programs to address issues common to all countries, in order to contribute to solving Latin American problems. Progress was also made on the ideal number of students who should participate in this mobility program. The meeting concluded with CONSUAN's commitment to organize the next meeting and to promote the strengthening of this mobility program among its members.
The meeting was organized by the Council of Rectors in conjunction with Alejandro Rodríguez, Director of International Relations and Outreach at the University of Valparaíso. Rector Aldo Valle attended the closing ceremony, where he expressed the commitment of the CRUCH universities to these types of initiatives and the need for greater collaboration among Latin American countries.
