In the session, held in Antofagasta, the Council of Rectors ratified its position on the bill, stating that the prohibition of profit-making for universities must be explicitly stated in it.
The Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) held its monthly plenary session, organized by the University of Antofagasta.
The executive vice president of the Council of Rectors, Juan Manuel Zolezzi, indicated that part of the discussion was focused on the guidelines that the Executive committed to preparing to change the draft law on Superintendence.
“We have met with the minister, but we are concerned about this issue,” the rector stated, arguing that so far, the only thing known is the previous project, developed under the leadership of the Minister of Education, Felipe Bulnes. “We don't know the future project and we are worried about being involved in a situation we don't want. We will cooperate fully with the ministry, but we reserve the right to agree or disagree with the outcome,” he indicated.
In another matter, it is worth noting that this CRUCH session began with a minute of silence in memory of Fernando Castillo Velasco, former rector of the Catholic University who passed away last week.
