goals
General objective:
To train autonomous researchers with the skills to develop and communicate relevant basic or applied research that contributes to the progress of forest sciences and the sustainable use of forest resources, proposing solutions relevant to the demands of their environment, maximizing the scientific, economic and social impact of their research from a multidisciplinary approach.
Specific objectives:
– To train PhDs with skills for the creation of new scientific knowledge in the field of forest sciences through the identification of problems, design and development of research and effective and autonomous communication of their results.
– To develop the necessary skills for the implementation of research in the field of forest sciences, emphasizing the value component in the scientific actions of graduates, considering emerging economic, social and environmental demands.
Applicant Profile
Applicants to the doctoral program must hold a bachelor's degree in a field related to forestry with a minimum duration of eight academic semesters, or a master's degree in a program related to forestry, with a grade point average of 5 or higher, or its equivalent on a scale of 1 to 7. They must demonstrate a strong interest in and motivation to contribute to the development of scientific and/or technological knowledge. Furthermore, they must be willing to learn independently, possess analytical and creative skills for formulating, analyzing, and solving problems related to the various areas of forestry, be able to integrate into interdisciplinary work groups, and have sufficient command of English to acquire knowledge in the discipline from written materials in that language.
Graduate profile
Graduates of the Doctoral Program in Forest Sciences at the University of Concepción will be prepared to design and develop relevant, cutting-edge research, either independently or collaboratively, focused on the diagnosis, analysis, and resolution of complex problems in the field of forest sciences. This research will be based on a solid foundation of theoretical knowledge and methodologies, enabling them to contribute to disciplinary knowledge in their area of specialization while safeguarding the sustainable use of forest resources in a context of global change. Specifically, and according to the emphasis of their chosen research area, they will be prepared to contribute to improving and understanding the effects of silvicultural practices in natural and plantation forests, the management of forest resources, improving wood quality and developing new forest products, and incorporating biotechnological tools for forest management or product development.,
To identify and propose solutions to the challenges related to the conservation of natural resources, ensuring the provision of ecosystem services that forests provide to communities.
