{"id":4688,"date":"2019-12-17T13:03:17","date_gmt":"2019-12-17T13:03:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.consejoderectores.cl\/?p=4688"},"modified":"2021-12-09T18:43:08","modified_gmt":"2021-12-09T18:43:08","slug":"comite-ejecutivo-del-cruch-da-la-bienvenida-al-rector-de-la-universidad-de-los-andes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/consejoderectores.cl\/en\/2019\/12\/17\/comite-ejecutivo-del-cruch-da-la-bienvenida-al-rector-de-la-universidad-de-los-andes\/","title":{"rendered":"Executive Committee of CRUCH welcomes the rector of the Universidad de Los Andes"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>The executive vice president of CRUCH, the rector Aldo Valle, said that he hopes that the incorporation of the university authority &quot;marks a milestone in the history of the Council of Rectors and that of the University of Los Andes.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>For his part, Rector Guzm\u00e1n said that joining the Council of Rectors &quot;is a very clear way of demonstrating our commitment to Chile, our interest in helping from the University of Los Andes to make the country better.&quot;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Starting this Monday, the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) will have 30 members, after the incorporation of Jos\u00e9 Antonio Guzm\u00e1n, rector of the University of Los Andes, to this collegiate body.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We hope this marks a milestone in the history of the Council of Rectors and that of the University of Los Andes,&quot; said the executive vice president of CRUCH, the rector of the University of Valpara\u00edso, Aldo Valle, after meeting with the rector Guzm\u00e1n and some of the members of the Executive Committee of the Council: Ennio Vivaldi, rector of the University of Chile and president of the Consortium of State Universities of Chile (CUECH); Patricio Sanhueza, rector of the U. de Playa Ancha and president of the Grouping of Regional Universities (AUR), and Jorge Tabilo, rector of the U. Cat\u00f3lica del Norte and president of the Network of Non-State Public Universities - G9.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was also attended by the executive secretary of CRUCH, Mar\u00eda Elena Gonz\u00e1lez; the academic vice-rector of the University of Los Andes, Jos\u00e9 Miguel Simian, and the secretary general of the university, Pilar Ureta.<\/p>\n<p>Rector Valle recalled that \u201cwe are facing a fact that should have waited for the modification of the law, since the Council of Rectors had legally determined the number of institutions that made it up. Fortunately, Law No. 21,091 established a procedure and requirements that universities must meet to join the Council \u201d.<\/p>\n<p>For his part, the rector Guzm\u00e1n stated that \u201cwe are very happy about this step that we wanted to happen for a long time, because it is a very clear way of demonstrating our commitment to Chile, our interest in helping from the U. de Los Andes so that the country is better, through education, research and networks with the rest of the rectors \u201d.<\/p>\n<h4>Incorporation to CRUCH<\/h4>\n<p>The process for Rector Guzm\u00e1n&#039;s admission to the CRUCH (Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities) began on November 5, 2018, when the University of Los Andes formally submitted its application for membership. The request was evaluated by a committee of rectors, which confirmed that the university met the requirements established by Law No. 21,091 on Higher Education for membership. Consequently, at the session of June 27, 2019, the full Council unanimously voted in favor of its incorporation and submitted a favorable report to the Ministry of Education.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequently, through Decree 250 of August 19, 2019, signed by the President of the Republic, the Rector of the University of the Andes was formally incorporated into the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH). The Comptroller General of the Republic approved the document on December 3, and it was published in the Official Gazette on December 10.<\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that, according to article 6 of Law 21,091, the universities recognized by the State may request the incorporation of their rectors to the CRUCH, provided that they comply with the requirements stipulated in that regulation. In this context, in March of this year the rectors of the U. Diego Portales, Carlos Pe\u00f1a, and of the U. Alberto Hurtado, Eduardo Silva joined the Council.<\/p>\n<h4>Guzm\u00e1n&#039;s career<\/h4>\n<p>Jos\u00e9 Antonio Guzm\u00e1n is a lawyer from the Pontificia Universidad Cat\u00f3lica de Chile, a master&#039;s degree in Education from Harvard University and a doctorate on the subject from the University of Pennsylvania, United States.<\/p>\n<p>He assumed as rector of the Universidad de los Andes in January 2014 and was re-elected in 2019 for a second five-year term.
