Registration for the PSU will begin next Monday, June 15, and will run until Friday, July 31, through the DEMRE website. The fee is $28.790.<\/p>\n

Adjustments to the formula for calculating the Grade Ranking will allow for a more accurate capture of students' educational trajectory during Secondary Education.<\/p>\n

In 2016, 5 new degree programs will be offered. Of the 1,404 programs retained from the previous process, 90.7% have exactly the same weightings, and 94.7% maintain last year's ranking weighting.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The alternate executive vice president of the Council of Rectors, the rector of the Catholic University of Maule, Diego Dur\u00e1n, along with the director of the Single Admission System, Ang\u00e9lica Bosch, and the director of the Department of Educational Evaluation, Measurement and Registration (DEMRE) of the University of Chile, Leonor Varas, announced the registration period for the PSU, the weightings that each university assigned to its careers and the adjustments to the formula of the Grade Ranking for this 2016 Admission Process.<\/p>\n

Rector Dur\u00e1n presented the official documents for the 2016 Admissions Process, \u201cRules and Important Aspects of the 2016 Admissions Process\u201d and the \u201cPreliminary List of Programs and Weightings,\u201d emphasizing that they contain relevant information for students to participate appropriately in the process. Both publications are available in digital format and can be downloaded from the websites of the Unified Admissions System of the Council of Rectors (http:\/\/sistemadeadmision.consejoderectores.cl) and DEMRE (www.demre.cl).<\/p>\n

Calendar<\/h4>\n

Regarding the 2016 Admissions Process schedule, the director of DEMRE, Leonor Varas, announced that the registration period for the PSU (University Selection Test) will begin next Monday, June 15, and will run until Friday, July 31. \u201cStudents can register through the platform available on the DEMRE website,\u201d explained the director. The fee is $28,790, but graduating seniors from municipal and subsidized private schools can apply for the Junaeb Scholarship for the PSU at the same time as their registration.<\/p>\n

The PSU exam will be administered on Monday, November 30th and Tuesday, December 1st, while the results will be released on Sunday, December 27th at 8:00 a.m. From that same day (at 9:00 a.m.) until Thursday, December 31st (1:00 p.m.), the application period will take place, which this year will have one additional day compared to last year.<\/p>\n

The application results will be announced on Sunday, January 10th at 11:00 PM, and the registration period will begin the following day. The first registration period will run from Monday, January 11th to Wednesday, January 13th, 2016, and the second registration period will run from Thursday, January 14th to Wednesday, January 20th.<\/p>\n

Races and Weightings<\/h4>\n

From the publication \u201cPreliminary Offer of Careers and Weightings\u201d it is worth noting that in 2016, the 25 universities of the CRUCH and the 8 private ones attached to the Admission System, will offer 1,409 careers, 5 of which are new.<\/p>\n

Of the 1,404 programs that remain from the previous admissions process, 90.7% has exactly the same weighting (NEM \u2013 Ranking \u2013 PSU battery), and 94.7% (1,330) shows the same weighting for the Grade Ranking. Of those programs that have changed, 48 have increased their Ranking weighting and 26 have decreased it. According to the director of the Unified Admissions System, Ang\u00e9lica Bosch, \u201cthere is considerable stability in the academic offerings compared to the previous process.\u201d.<\/p>\n

On average, the universities that saw the greatest increase in their ranking weight are the University of Atacama (13%), the University of Magallanes (6.3%), and the University of Valpara\u00edso (2.8). Meanwhile, Universidad Mayor's ranking weight decreased by an average of 4.7%, the Metropolitan Technological University by 0.4%, and Alberto Hurtado University by 0.3%.<\/p>\n

Thus, a total of 333 programs set their Grade Ranking weighting at 40%, 6 programs at 35%, 71 programs at 30%, 133 programs at 25%, 464 programs at 20%, 100 programs at 15%, and 297 programs at 10%. According to the preliminary offer, the system will offer 1,409 programs.<\/p>\n

The \u201cFinal Offer of Careers, Vacancies and Weightings\u201d will be published on September 24th and is not expected to present significant variations.<\/p>\n

Adjustments to Grade Ranking Formula<\/h4>\n

As announced by the Council of Rectors last August, adjustments will be made to the formula for calculating the Grade Ranking, starting with the current process, with the aim of more accurately reflecting the diverse educational contexts in which a student may have completed their secondary education. \u201cThis allows for a more precise evaluation of student performance within their educational context, which is consistent with the spirit of this mechanism,\u201d stated the alternate executive vice president of CRUCH, Rector Diego Dur\u00e1n.<\/p>\n

It's important to remember that until the previous admissions process, a student's educational context was represented solely by the school they graduated from, but from now on, different educational environments will be considered. As Mat\u00edas Grau, a researcher in the Unified Admissions System Studies Area of the CRUCH (Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities), explained, \u201cIf the student attended school 'A' from 9th to 12th grade, one educational context will be considered. However, if they attended school 'A' in 9th and 10th grade and then school 'B' in 11th and 12th grade, two educational contexts will be considered. In this case, the student's final ranking score is obtained by averaging the ranking scores in each educational context, and the relative weight of each score will depend on the number of years the student completed (and passed) in that context.\u2018.<\/p>\n

Students who remained in the same establishment during their Secondary Education will obtain the same Ranking Score as with the previous formula.<\/p>\n
