Starting next year, the Grade Ranking will be calculated based on each of the schools where a student completed their secondary education. The CRUCH (Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities) will ask the Ministry of Education to analyze the situation of students in schools receiving incoming students who could see their academic scholarships threatened.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) reaffirmed its announcement this week that the formula for calculating the Grade Ranking will not be modified for this admissions process. However, there will be changes for the next process (2016), which will consist of calculating the Ranking Score considering all the schools a student attended during their secondary education.<\/p>\n

This will prevent fourth-year high school students from seeking to graduate from a school with a lower average grade in order to gain an advantage in their Ranking score.<\/p>\n

The executive vice president of the Council of Rectors, Juan Manuel Zolezzi, stated that \u201cthere will be no changes to what is stipulated for 2014. However, for next year, the team studying the ranking system must establish adjustments to the calculation formula.\u00bb With this measure, he clarified, \u201cit will no longer make sense to change schools in the final year.\u201d.<\/p>\n

The executive vice president also indicated that the Ministry of Education will be asked to analyze the situation of students in vulnerable schools who are receiving students from prestigious schools and who could see their scholarships or other benefits for good performance threatened.<\/p>\n

Grade Ranking Adjustments<\/h4>\n

Since its implementation, the Grade Ranking has aimed to diversify the selection instruments - which include University Selection Tests and High School Grades - and to recognize the academic performance of students, regardless of the type of school and the student's socioeconomic status.<\/p>\n

The adjustments to improve the formula, as well as proposals for the development and implementation of the Pure Ranking, are being handled by a committee of technical advisors convened by the Unified Admission System (SUA) of the Council of Rectors. This committee has been working for a year and is convened according to the specific issue at hand. It is currently composed of professionals from the Ministry of Education, universities belonging to the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH), and research centers.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
