{"id":1393,"date":"2014-08-22T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-08-22T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2022-01-18T18:29:03","modified_gmt":"2022-01-18T18:29:03","slug":"603c6d807acd0","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/consejoderectores.cl\/en\/2014\/08\/22\/603c6d807acd0\/","title":{"rendered":"Rector Jos\u00e9 Rodr\u00edguez was distinguished with the 2014 National Award for Applied and Technological Sciences"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>The jury, chaired by the Minister of Education, Nicol\u00e1s Eyzaguirre, decided to award the 2014 National Prize for Applied Sciences and Technologies to the civil engineer and rector of the Federico Santa Mar\u00eda Technical University, Jos\u00e9 Rodr\u00edguez P\u00e9rez.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>On Friday, August 22, the jury unanimously decided to award the 2014 National Prize for Applied Sciences and Technologies to Jos\u00e9 Rodr\u00edguez P\u00e9rez, an Electrical Engineer and university academic with a distinguished national and international career.<\/p>\n<p>After thoroughly analyzing the background and merits of the award candidates, the jury based its decision &quot;on his extensive production of scientific publications, which has positioned him as the Chilean researcher with the greatest international recognition in the field of electrical engineering,&quot; explained Minister Eyzaguirre.<\/p>\n<p>The Secretary of State and president of the jury also highlighted his academic career, \u201cwhich began as a sub-technician and culminated in a doctorate in Germany. The jury also emphasized his contribution to the training of advanced human capital.\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Jos\u00e9 Rodr\u00edguez is a Civil Electrical Engineer from the Federico Santa Mar\u00eda Technical University (UTFSM) and holds a PhD in Engineering, specializing in electrotechnics, from the University of Erlangen, Germany.<\/p>\n<p>The award recipient is an active researcher who has participated in numerous FONDECYT projects since 1987, as well as in a Millennium Nucleus (2005-2008) and a Basal Center of Excellence (2009-2012). He has received national and international recognition in the field of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and is the only Chilean included by Thomson Reuters in its 2014 Highly Cited Research list, which recognizes the world&#039;s most influential researchers in the scientific field.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout his career he has received various awards for his research work, including being a Fellow Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) of the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside his scientific work, he currently serves as rector of the Federico Santa Mar\u00eda Technical University. \u201cIt is noteworthy that he carried out his scientific work concurrently with his role as rector,\u201d Minister Eyzaguirre emphasized.<\/p>\n<p>The jury consisted of the Minister of Education, Nicol\u00e1s Eyzaguirre; Ennio Vivaldi, Rector of the University of Chile; Sergio Lavanchy, Rector of the University of Concepci\u00f3n, representing the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH); and Mar\u00eda Elena Boisier, Acting President of the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT).
