During the meeting, they addressed topics such as proposed reforms to general education and potential methodologies for discussing higher education reform.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The members of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities met for their plenary session at the Las Acacias Hotel in Santiago. The meeting, chaired by Alternate Vice President Sergio Lavanchy, welcomed the Rector of the University of Chile, Ennio Vivaldi, and congratulated Rector Sergio Bravo, who was re-elected for another term at the helm of the University of La Frontera.<\/p>\n<p>Among the topics discussed, the presentation by Rector Jaime Espinosa of the Metropolitan University of Educational Sciences stood out. He spoke about the bills currently before Congress that would end shared financing, profit-making, and selective admissions in general education. The rectors discussed the importance of these changes to the education system and evaluated the various perspectives on the issue.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the expected changes in Higher Education this year, the university presidents asked Francisco Mart\u00ednez, head of the Higher Education Division (DIVESUP) at the Ministry of Education, to provide a forum for participation and discussion of these issues before they become draft legislation. They also discussed ways to address these topics within the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH).<\/p>\n<p>The Council also discussed the operation and regulation of clinical placements, a topic of concern to many CRUCH universities offering health sciences programs.
