In light of the regrettable statements made by the honorable deputy Gustavo Hasb\u00fan on February 27th of this year, it is essential for us to express our deepest rejection of the recurring practice of gratuitously denigrating and unjustifiably offending the honor of individuals, and in this case, of a university authority still in office.<\/p>\n
Rector Emilio Rodr\u00edguez Ponce is a top-tier academic and researcher, deeply committed to public education and the development of the University of Tarapac\u00e1 and its region. He has also previously served the country with impeccable professionalism. At a time when Chile is eagerly awaiting potential reforms that could ultimately lead to comprehensive societal development, unfounded statements like those made by Congressman Hasb\u00fan not only tarnish the impeccable record of a university leader and future regional authority, but also further poison the atmosphere surrounding the national political landscape.<\/p>\n
As the Council of Rectors, we call for respect for our differences and for building the future on the foundation of honor, avoiding giving credence to malicious and unfounded statements that only seek to tarnish people's reputations. We believe that statements like those of Representative Hasb\u00fan cannot be dismissed as just another anecdote that appeared in the newspaper, but must be condemned by the community as a whole and evaluated and sanctioned, as we deem appropriate, by the relevant oversight or ethics bodies.<\/p>\n
