Given the situation that occurred at a PSU testing center in San Bernardo, the Council of Rectors, together with the Unified Admission System, wish to declare the following to the public:<\/p>\n
On December 2nd, a group of test-takers at a PSU testing center in San Bernardo contacted the Department of Educational Evaluation, Measurement, and Registration (DEMRE) at the University of Chile to report that examiners had told them there would be no deductions for incorrect answers on the Language and Communication test this year. This situation occurred at only one testing center out of a total of 562 across Chile.<\/p>\n
DEMRE staff immediately went to the school, while phone calls were made to assess what had happened. According to the information gathered, a coordinator at the school allegedly gave these instructions to the examiners, contravening DEMRE's guidelines.<\/p>\n
It is worth noting that DEMRE prints a set of instructions on the cover of each test booklet, which must be read by the examiners before each test begins, to avoid any misinterpretations. This instruction, in point number 6, clearly states: "Answer the questions without guessing, because incorrect answers will lower your score." This is the information that should have been read by the examiners, just as it was in the other nearly 8,000 rooms where, at that same time, the Language and Communication test was beginning to be administered throughout the country.<\/p>\n
Due to this situation, the coordinator who gave the instruction and the two people in charge of this establishment were immediately replaced, being replaced by specialized personnel from DEMRE in this type of situation.<\/p>\n
Currently, specialists are evaluating the technical aspects and alternatives to determine the scores of these applicants on the Language and Communication test, ensuring that no applicant is disadvantaged.
