{"id":1314,"date":"2013-12-02T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-12-02T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2022-01-20T14:18:49","modified_gmt":"2022-01-20T14:18:49","slug":"603c6d807735b","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/consejoderectores.cl\/en\/2013\/12\/02\/603c6d807735b\/","title":{"rendered":"Court of Appeals: &quot;Ranking of Notes represents values and public goods&quot;"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>The executive vice president of the Council of Rectors, Juan Manuel Zolezzi, stated that he was \u201cvery pleased for the thousands of families who will now have a real opportunity to access higher education.\u201d The ruling indicates that the Grade Ranking is an instrument with \u201ca clear social commitment to recognizing the merit and talent of students.\u201d.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Second Chamber of the Santiago Court of Appeals unanimously rejected the 13 appeals for protection filed against the Grade Ranking system. These appeals were submitted by students and parents of students from secondary schools in the capital.<\/p>\n<p>The executive vice president of the Council of Rectors, Juan Manuel Zolezzi, commented on this favorable result for CRUCH in the company of Mar\u00eda Elena Gonz\u00e1lez, director of the Single Admission System (SUA) and Jaime Bustos, lawyer of the University of Santiago.<\/p>\n<p>Rector Zolezzi stated that after reading the ruling, he found it &quot;quite well-founded,&quot; adding that &quot;the Court has been clear in pointing out that the incorporation of the Grade Ranking and its maintenance corresponds to a decision adopted by the CRUCH with evident academic support.&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the ruling states that the Ranking is &quot;an instrument that represents public values and goods, with a clear social commitment to recognize the merit and talent of students, avoiding discrimination in the sociocultural sphere of the applicants.&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>Rector Zolezzi noted that \u201cCRUCH makes an important contribution to the country in terms of equity and equality, which is reaffirmed today.\u201d He added that the Grade Ranking \u201creinforces something that should never have been overlooked: the importance of students studying throughout their four years of secondary education and understanding that this is the best way to enter university.
