{"id":1250,"date":"2013-05-24T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-05-24T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2022-01-21T16:15:11","modified_gmt":"2022-01-21T16:15:11","slug":"603c6d807459b","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/consejoderectores.cl\/en\/2013\/05\/24\/603c6d807459b\/","title":{"rendered":"CRUCH condemns attack against the rector and directors of the University of Tarapac\u00e1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In response to the attack suffered on May 22nd by the rector and directors of the University of Tarapac\u00e1, by a group of students from the institution, the Council of Rectors expresses its total rejection of any form of violence within our institutions.<\/p>\n<div>We have witnessed the intolerance of some student groups who have failed to appreciate the path of dialogue that we, as university rectors, propose to resolve conflicts within our academic institutions. Although these groups are a minority within the university community, the damage they inflict on democratic coexistence is unacceptable.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>As university presidents, we understand student demands and have even publicly supported them on many occasions. Our defense against the potential loss of benefits, in which we declared that no student would be left without assistance if needed, and our efforts to promote equity in admissions to our institutions demonstrate the concern we have shown for our students.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>For this reason, we are surprised and unacceptable that acts are committed in the name of these demands that only contribute to fostering a climate of violence within our communities.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>We categorically reject violence in all its forms and stand in solidarity with Rector Emilio Rodr\u00edguez, administrators Ingrid Fern\u00e1ndez and Alvaro Palma, the university community, and their families. Such actions have no place in a university, which is conceived as a place that fosters dialogue and democracy.
