According to the CRUCH and DEMRE analysis, the incorporation of the grade ranking benefited the municipalized establishments the most (72.9%), followed by the subsidized private establishments (64.4%) and the paid private establishments (48.4%).<\/p>\n

The executive vice president of the Council of Rectors, Juan Manuel Zolezzi, reported that this bonus allowed young people from municipal high schools to have greater possibilities of choosing what career to study.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was the objective pursued by the Council of Rectors when integrating the ranking into the admissions process, to give better opportunities for access to higher education to young people who could not access quality secondary education,\u00bb explained Rector Zolezzi.<\/p>\n

Students will find out the results of their applications today at 11:00 p.m. on the respective websites of the traditional universities and the eight private universities affiliated with the CRUCH Single Admission System.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

72.91% of young people from municipal education benefited from the introduction of the grade ranking in the selection process for Chilean universities, reported the executive vice president of the Council of Rectors (CRUCH), Juan Manuel Zolezzi, this morning when delivering the results of the process.<\/p>\n

This variable provides an additional bonus - ranging from 1 to 150 points - for all those students who completed secondary education with an average grade higher than the average of the last three years of their graduating schools.<\/p>\n

The second most benefited group was that of young people from subsidized private establishments (64.4%), while 48.4% of graduates from paid private establishments received the additional bonus.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are pleased that the objective of the grade ranking was met, to benefit young people from municipal and subsidized private education to a greater extent in the application process to Chilean universities,\u00bb explained Rector Zolezzi.<\/p>\n

\u00abThis was undoubtedly the goal pursued by the Council of Rectors when they integrated the ranking into the admissions process: to give better opportunities for access to higher education to young people who were unable to access quality secondary education. Many of the young people who benefited had better weighted scores, which allowed them to enter their first-choice programs; in other words, they had a greater chance of choosing what to study,\u201d he commented.<\/p>\n

Applicants from municipal schools received the highest bonuses for this category. The 24% group of students from these schools obtained bonus points ranging from 51 to 150, while the 23% group of students from subsidized private schools received bonuses in the same range, and only the 9% group of students from private schools achieved scores at this level.<\/p>\n

Results of the admission process<\/h4>\n

80.61% of applicants who took the University Selection Tests (PSU) last December were selected to study a career at one of the 25 traditional universities and eight private universities affiliated with the single admission system of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH).<\/p>\n

This means that the system selected 95,300 students out of the 118,208 who applied in the process.<\/p>\n

When analyzing the applications by type of educational establishment, it can be seen that in the case of municipal establishments, of the 30,402 young people who applied, 23,117 were selected. In the case of subsidized private schools, 46,922 applied and were selected, and as for private paid schools, 7,787 young people applied and 6,355 were selected.<\/p>\n

This year the trend in the distribution of the best PSU scores remained similar to the previous admission process, the year in which eight private universities were integrated into the university admission system of the Council of Rectors.<\/p>\n

In this admission process, of the 211 young people who obtained a national score and were selected in one of the 33 universities attached to the admission system, 98% of them were admitted to the universities of the Council of Rectors and the remaining 2% to the private universities attached to the system.<\/p>\n

If we consider the 5,000 best average scores in Language and Communication and Mathematics, we can see that 85% chose a university from the Council of Rectors, while 15% chose a private university within the system.<\/p>\n

When the sample is expanded to the 27,500 highest average scores in Language and Communication and Mathematics, it is seen that 76% chose a traditional university, while 23% was selected in a private university affiliated with the system.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis figure shows us that young people from municipal and subsidized private schools continue to choose to pursue professional training at the universities of the Council of Rectors, and as universities we will continue to provide them with an excellent education to support them on this important path,\u201d highlighted Rector Zolezzi.<\/p>\n
