In an extraordinary plenary session, the inclusion of this factor as one more element within the selection variables was approved, starting with the 2013 admission.<\/p>\n

In addition, the schedule for the 2013 Admission Process was established, with the dates for taking the PSU exams set for December 3 and 4.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cStarting today, DEMRE and CTA will begin working to implement the ranking process and establish the corresponding mechanics so that this year's selection process includes the grade ranking of students from all schools, whether municipal, private-subsidized, or private,\u201d declared Juan Manuel Zolezzi, executive vice president of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH), after the extraordinary plenary session that brought together the 25 rectors to discuss the Grade Ranking and the definition of the 2013 Admission Process calendar.<\/p>\n

A project long discussed and desired by many sectors of the citizenry, the inclusion of the Grade Ranking as one more element within the selection variables must be assumed by all the universities adhering to the admission process, which would be the 25 institutions that make up the CRUCH and the 8 private universities that joined last year.<\/p>\n

The ultimate goal of integrating this new variable is to reduce inequality and the lack of socioeconomic diversity that exists within schools today, expanding the possibilities of access to higher education.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe PSU (University Selection Test) is useful, it has been useful for many years, and it will continue to be useful for many more. The problem is that it cannot, on its own, eliminate an effect that students bring from their own schools, which is the inequality in terms of knowledge and the quality of education they received during their schooling. When we talk about rankings, we can put on equal footing those students who are at the top of their class in a private school and those at the top of their class in a public school,\u201d Zolezzi emphasized.<\/p>\n

The CRUCH agreement was definitive in the decision to include the ranking for this year, but the final procedure of how it will be carried out will be presented by the Technical Advisory Committee (CTA) and the Department of Educational Evaluation, Measurement and Registration (DEMRE) of the University of Chile at the next plenary session, which will take place on Thursday, June 28 at the Federico Santa Mar\u00eda University of Valpara\u00edso.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, by that same date the rectors committed to detailing the weighting range of this measure.<\/p>\n

2013 Admission Process Calendar<\/h4>\n

Another important agreement was the schedule for the 2013 Admission Process. The dates for the University Selection Tests (PSU) were set for Monday, December 3 (Language and Communication and Sciences) and Tuesday, December 4 (Mathematics and History).<\/p>\n

Sunday, December 2nd, has been designated as the day for room assignments. This year's PSU results will be released on December 26th starting at 11:00 PM, and applications\u2014which will be submitted online\u2014will be accepted on December 27th, 28th, and 29th.<\/p>\n

The selection results will be published on January 8th, and from the following day registration and the withdrawal period will begin, which lasts for 10 days, until January 18th.<\/p>\n
